Board of Selectmen's Minutes 09/12/2011

Board of Selectmen
Town of Tolland

MINUTES OF SELECTMEN MEETING – September 12, 2011 5:00 PM

Selectmen Present:        Eric R. Munson, Jr., Steven DellaGiustina and Thomas Paine

Also Present:    Gloria Gery
                       Cathy Parzych
                       Robert Littlefield
                       Frank Fazi

On July 26th Broadband Committee members Gloria Gery and Cathy Parzych attended the “kick off” with Governor Patrick in the Town of Sandisfield to celebrate a major announcement to advance the MassBroadband 123 fiber-optic network. MassBroadband 123 is a state and federally funded project to deploy a new middle mile fiber optic network in Western Massachusetts.

The WiredWest organization is a public cooperative, made up of member towns that have passed Municipal Light Plant legislation

Gloria is asking the board to schedule a public hearing to obtain information on cooperative Wired West. The hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 11th at 7PM. If a town decides to join the WiredWest Cooperative, there will be a membership fee of not more than $1,000 per town. For a town to become an MLP requires a two-thirds majority pass vote of voters present, at two town meetings, two to 13 months apart.

Robert Littlefield, Fire Chief discussed the placement of a dry hydrant. The dry hydrant was purchased by WPOA. WPOA has written restrictions that they are asking the Fire Department to follow. Frank Fazi and Robert Littlefield will meet with the board next Monday, September 19, 2011 to discuss further.

The Board of Selectmen appointed Jean Armitage to serve as a member of the Highland Valley Elder Services.

Received an email from Robert Gery stating that he had concerns with the Selectmen’s minutes of July 25th as they relate to certain “add alternate” costs of the Public Safety Complex he feels that not only do they not properly represent what he said but they imply just the opposite of what both he wanted to convey and that of the Tolland Building Committee!

The Board of Selectmen amended the minutes to read as follows: Mr. Robert Gery did not agree with the change order to fund the painting of the Public Safety Complex in the amount of $22,092.00.

Eric reported that the Town of Russell joined the Department of Veterans’ Services Western Hampden District giving the Town of Tolland a credit of $192.37.

Meeting adjourned at 6:30PM
Respectfully submitted,
Margaret McClellan
